Most remakes of classic films are the shadows of the originals. But Joel and Ethan Coen version of Western “True Grit” – with Jeff Bridges: Rooster Cogburn, newcomer Steinfeld Hailee as courageous Mattie Ross and Matt Damon: Texas Ranger LaBoeuf – won over critics, audiences and even Kim Darby, who played the Mattie in 1969 original resolute for which John Wayne won his only Oscar as the irascible Cogburn.

“It’s a wonderful movie,” says Darby, now 63. “This is the top drawer.” And she said, therefore Steinfeld.

“It is just amazing in the film, Darby said.” I said to her agent, ‘ make sure that you pay attention to what he did then. The thing is what is so important. (“”(Post – “Grit” Darby, films including 1969 “generation” and “norwood” 1970s”, has not exactly burned down the box office.)

Darby was particularly impressed by skills of Steinfeld horse, including riding his black pony above of a river. “God bless him it did everything,” says Darby, who admitted that she was probably on a horse that five minutes in the original.

“I am really afraid of horses,” she says. I got a double blow.” It was about 65 years. They made my face out of Clay mask and it could lead only and it corresponds to my profile.

Most of the major players of the original, including Wayne, Dennis Hopper, Jeff Corey and Director Henry Hathaway, is dead. But, in addition to Darby are always around, including Robert Duvall (who plays the gang “lucky” rogue leader Ned Pepper) and singing star Glen Campbell (who debuted in film as LaBoeuf).

For the 1969 “True Grit,” which, as 2010, film has been adapted from the novel of Charles Portis, producer Hal Wallis wanted initially Mia Farrow playing Mattie. But she allegedly refused because her “Secret ceremony” partner Robert Mitchum warned that Hathaway was difficult to work with Director.

Wallis then saw Darby in an episode of the television series “Run for Your Life” in which she plays a mother single and thought that she had the pluck and vulnerability to the character of Mattie.

If Steinfeld was only 13 when she plays the role of Mattie age of 14 years in the new version, Darby has 21 and mother of a girl in the newborn, Heather, with her first husband, actor James Stacy. During the filming of the movie, she began divorce proceedings against Stacy.

“The first 10 days of film I would love to do again,” says Darby, who lives in Los Angeles and has had some minor roles in recent years, but has primarily focused on teaching acting for two decades. “I think that I am more focused on my child because she was such a child.”

She fondly remembers working with Wayne. “It was about the game before anyone else and was fully aware of each row, Darby has.

After shooting finished, Darby recall, there was a photo shoot at Paramount Pictures with stars who worked in the studio at the time, “which were John Wayne, Barbra Streisand, Clint Eastwood, Goldie Hawn.” … Robert Evans was in the middle. I was sitting on the sidewalk a look far ways. The Duke is out of the picture and he said, “Hey, kid. He made his weapons and raised me and me over and put me in the middle of the image. How wonderful is that? »

It did, however, have a bit of a problem with Hathaway, who was 71 where he directed the film.

“It was a prop man and he generally focused on the prop man and it would just shout him no matter what he was doing, Darby has.”

Although they had obtained the long property when she first met in the studio, Hathaway yelled to him the first day of filming. She said “It have me so by surprise,”. “I just got up and went back to my dressing room.”

Finally, the two had a conversation in the dressing room. “I said, ‘ Henry, I will do everything you want, just not shout me again.” After this date, we went along spend. »

Campbell, now 74 years of age and living in Malibu, said that he also experienced problems with Hathaway. After be shouted one day, Campbell recalled that he said, “you know, I can get on a horse and get out there and get in my car and return to Los Angeles ‘ type, he looked at me and said,”well, I was hard on you.”" This is Henry Hathaway. »

Most remakes of classic films are the shadows of the originals. But Joel and Ethan Coen version of Western “True Grit” – with Jeff Bridges: Rooster Cogburn, newcomer Steinfeld Hailee as courageous Mattie Ross and Matt Damon: Texas Ranger LaBoeuf – won over critics, audiences and even Kim Darby, who played the Mattie in 1969 original resolute for which John Wayne won his only Oscar: the irascible Cogburn.

“” “(Darby post ‘Grit’ films – including 1969″generation”and 1970s”norwood”- did not exactly fire at the box office.)

Darby was particularly impressed by skills of Steinfeld horse, including riding his black pony above of a river. “God bless him it did everything,” says Darby, who admitted that she was probably on a horse that five minutes in the original.

“I am really afraid of horses,” she says. I got a double blow.”

Most of the major players of the original – including Wayne, Dennis Hopper, Jeff Corey and Director Henry Hathaway – died.

She fondly remembers working with Wayne. “It was about the game before anyone else and was fully aware of each row, Darby has.

She said “It have me so by surprise,”. “I just got up and went back to my dressing room.”

Finally, the two had a heart to heart conversation. “I said, ‘ Henry, I will do everything you want, just not shout me again.” After this date, we went along spend. »

Campbell, now 74 years of age and living in Malibu, said that he also experienced problems with Hathaway.

If advantage plans of your new year include whiskey put whiskers on your chin, waving their arms in the air like a madman of dance and shaking off the regrets of the past, these fellows should fit right in.

Reel Deal rounded on its performance preferred by players in 2010 with a wild herd. Firstly, predictably, is a guy with true grit.

• JEFF BRIDGES, “TRUE GRIT”

Directing duo Joel and Ethan Coen “true grit” is less a remake of the epic of Oscar 1969 with John Wayne, it’s a fresh adaptation of the novel by Charles Portis.

And name and eye patch resist, Rooster Cogburn of Duke and a cheek bridges is drunken cowboy for a different kind.

I would argue that Rooster Bridges is hard – but not necessarily better – than Wayne.

They are the Roosters that each of their films need – in both cases, the revolver to work right.

Cock Wayne matched wits and iron with Glen Campbell, Kim Darby, Robert Duvall, Dennis Hopper and Jeff Corey.

Bridges rides with Matt Damon (: Texas Ranger the beef) and Hailee Steinfeld (: Mattie Ross), while Josh Brolin (Tom Chaney) and Barry Pepper (Lucky Ned Pepper) follow-up.

History of and the line pretty much the same – a girl (Mattie Ross) seeks revenge against the man who murdered his father in cold blood and enrolled in a U.S. Marshal intoxicated and pampered Texas Ranger in his quest – but the look of two films, feel to go from Point A to Point Z differently.

The Coens film takes a slightly faster road to the Crown, which makes room for comedy and more competitive banter between distinctly different Tracker, Rooster and the beef (pronounced “Meat”) and an end that extends from the original for 20 years.

Steinfeld, in his first role in major film, standing is tenacious and terrible, toe – toe with Oscar winners and outlaw.

Damon is mainly comic relief – although great at it.

Bridges, nicknamed “the Dude” for his role in the Coens classic cult “the big lebowski,” is just as bad (and good) as he played “Bad” Blake in “crazy heart” last year, which earned him the award for best actor. Through all the whiskey, sand and gravel in his voice, there is a true heart – earned by the indomitable Mattie Ross.

It will win your heart, too – even if it belonged and still plays the Duke and not so much the Dude.

• ROBERT DUVALL and BILL MURRAY, “get low.”

It is the film little with stars that you’ve never heard of and for some reason, cannot find.

But if you look out it successfully, it will pay big dividends.

In this document, Duvall plays Felix Bush, a hermit of bushy haired old Tennessee who, in the 1930s, threw his own funeral party… While he was still alive.

It is “Tale of equal parts, fable and real-life legend.”

Murray plays Frank Quinn, a funeral director to a drought in a city full of people who don’t want to die.

Therefore, when Felix with his WAD of cash in hand, proposes a funeral to live, Frank salivates at.

His partner, Buddy (played by Lucas Black) brings in the business, is most of the heavy lifting when it comes to average, hermit old everyone spoke tales.

And tell tales is what Felix wants her funeral guests to do.

Meanwhile, it has an amazing her own to get off his chest.

Sissy Spacek stars also as Mattie, who knew before Felix he abandoned all civilization of solitude on regulations of backcountry.

I have nothing else to praise for “Get Low,” especially for Duvall and Murray, who, from the dirt and grime and shady, simply sparkle transactions.

• KEVIN KLINE, THE EXTRA MAN.”

A genius both playwright and “extra man” Henry Harrison (Kline) is often distracted by the quirks of life.

You can find on display in this strange film with Paul Dano, Katie Holmes and John c. Reilly.

Dano plays Louis Ives, aspiring young writer whose fascination underwear ladies’ opens a new chapter in his life, in which it is cohabitation with an eccentric in a small apartment in upper east side of New York while he worked for an environmental magazine.

Reilly, barely recognizable at first governed by a bushy beard and hair, lives in a nearby apartment – and help with repairs and the movement of things.

Holmes is écolophiles, vegan love interest Louis and colleague.

But the show is owned by Kline and h. Harrison.

The actor is true comic form (ala of 1988 “A fish called Wanda”) – utter sounds absurd but hilarious and sashaying across the screen.

I couldn’t help but laugh whenever he opened his mouth.

Harrison is a strange mentor for the young Louis, taught him the art of being an “extra man,” which is the type of a gigolo imagine – plus-one rich widows to exclusive parties and commitments.

It is also, to over the years, raised with the most ridiculous and intriguing facts and theories about everything from women lib and sexual appetite to the decline of literature English.

Perhaps additional Kline, but also in every essential way.

ALSO INTERESTING:

• GEORGE CLOONEY, which says long without opening her mouth over the mysterious man on the lamb in “American”.

• BEN STILLER: “Greenberg,”the lovably neurotic loser dedicated to wallow in self-pity and regret.”"

Robert McCune like movies. In the column of Deal reel next week (which concludes this year experience), he will share his top year movies.

As 2010 took end, many of the best films of the year were just released theatrically while others are released on DVD and Blu – Ray. Critics have already begun their naming winners, Oscar ballots have been mailed and the most prestigious award shows (Golden Globes – 16 January;) (Oscar – 27 February) are almost here. For me, five versions uncompetitive as excellent films and strong Oscar contenders: “127 Hours,” “True Grit”, “The Fighter,” “Speech King” and “Black Swan, I chose this list of films by year end top ten. Other films, not listed here, are tense heist thriller of Ben Affleck “City” at number ten, all simply brilliant “Scott Pilgrim vs. the world” number eight, cry-worthy “Toy Story 3″ number five, “the Social Network” Facebook film number three and bending “creating Christopher Nolan” two number.

“127 Hours” chronic 2003 test of Aron Ralston in blue John Canyon Utah, when a rock the pinned her arm against a wall of rock, forcing them to amputate his forearm with a dull knife to escape and live.

The whole film relies on this scene and Director Danny Boyle certainly makes the viewer feel there are numerous reports of viewers fainting after attending realistic amputation. However, 127 hours is much more than a film about “that guy who cut the sound own arms.”

James Franco offers an unforgettable spectacle: Ralston, carrying the film as its single player many time of execution. Boyle skillfully manages avoid recession sometimes afflicts citizen administration. Boyle has attempted to obtain the harrowing story of Ralston, transformed into a film since 2006, but the Trekker refused him, wishing to make a documentary.

However, after success Boyle “Slumdog Millionaire” (winner of eight Academy Awards including best film and best director), Ralston, and two years later reviewed, we have been endowed “127 Hours,” comes in at the ninth on my countdown at year-end.

Hollywood has recently started to create several remakes uninspired free of old classics (for an example, see, or rather don’t see, “Clash of the Titans”). However, the duo lead Coen brothers are not ordinary Hollywood, and “true grit” is more than just a pointless remake. Avoiding their typical idiosyncratic type of film for a straight line, convention-adhering to the West, the Coens have created a modern adaptation amazingly funny that remains faithful to the original novel by Charles Portis. U.S. Deputy Marshal Rooster Cogburn is played by 2009 best actor winner Jeff Bridges. Such as lead, bridges garners the most attention for its radical performance as Marshal pressed. But the newcomer, age of 14 years old Hailee Steinfeld who really steals the show: Mattie Ross. Mattie search out Marshal Cogburn to track down the man who killed his father. Their quest, wonderfully framed by Cinematographer Roger Deakins becomes compelling. Performance of the Steinfeld is the weight of an actress more than itself and could very well put him in the company of Tatum O’Neal and Anna Paquin minors Oscar winners. “true grit” ranked seventh for 2010 on my final list.

Mark Wahlberg has tried to produce some “The Fighter” more than five years of training to get boxing playing life shaped real Boxer Micky Ward. His efforts were worth as he delivers a sterling performance, but it is ultimately the plaster around him, which revives this movie. “The Hunter” is, in every sense, a movie together with solid performance by Amy Adams: girlfriend stubborn Ward, Charlene and Melissa Leo in a tour de force performance as his mother and Manager. But the highlight of the film’s performance captivating Christian Bale Ward sterile half-brother of cocaine, instructor and former boxer Dicky Eklund. Bale is known for his style of the method of action in which he lives the character he plays, on and off camera, for the duration of filming. Questioned about Bale, Melissa Leo mentioned that she had encountered before and after the shooting. anytime between he Eklund. The Bale acting is top notch, the culmination of a boxing film, although it is not much different from its predecessors, making everything for good he still deserves high reputation. “The Hunter” slots in just above “True Grit” at number six in my top 10 of 2010.

“Speech King” is a piece of classical period on the very human characteristics of the royalty, inspiring the audience with an excellent performance of its main actor Colin Firth as King George VI. Firth deserves Oscar gold for his incredibly good performance supported by equally impressive vire Geoffrey Rush as a speech therapist Lionel Logue and Helena Bonham Carter: married Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother (his daughter is the present Queen Elizabeth II). The trials and tribulations of Bertie, George is known among family, became an inspirational story of perseverance that could be recommended for all ages, whether it is for the therapy session wherein Logue gets Bertie to loosen by debit expletives. “Speech King” class fourth in my top 10.

Critics are concerned, the best film Oscar race is two films: “The King speech” and the previously discussed “the Social Network” a film about the creation of Facebook.

Although two films deserve the accolades imposed, I would personally take “Social Network”.

In what figures to be a best actor race very tight between the bridges, Franco, “Social Network” Jesse Eisenberg and Firth, I would give the advantage Firth (over Franco, Eisenberg and bridges, in that order). It depicts King shuttering as a sympathetic and empathetic character as he grows throughout his speech impediment.

If you read carefully, you already know that there is a movie left to consider and that, according to the rankings has already revealed, a connector left to fill. My top film of 2010 is Darren Aronofsky, psychological thriller ballet, the simply phenomenal “Black swan.” Aronofsky is already a developer favorite of mine. previous efforts include a 2000s “Requiem for a dream” and “The Wrestler” from 2007 and the film in many ways a piece of companion to “the wrestler,” features him what may be at its best.

Natalie Portman offers career – performance set as dancer Nina Sayers, who slowly loses its grip on the formation of the reality for the lead role in Swan Lake.

All aspects of this film is Black Swan absolutely first-rate. Score of Clint Mansell and cinematography Matthew Libatique, with Visual effects subtle all add it into the atmosphere. In addition, strong support turns from Barbara Hershey: Nina, mother dominatrix Vincent Cassel: wily choreographer of ballet, Winona Ryder: a former star ballerina forced retirement and especially Mila Kunis as a new dancer seducing of dubious reality all have the most exquisite film.

Scenario stretched messes with your head, leaving the spectator reeling with its stunning conclusion. For any reason whatsoever, find you see Black Swan, see. You won’t soon forget, and it is a film strong enough for the top “creation” as my best film of 2010.
